ARMED CLASH AND ATTACK LEAVE THREE POLICE OFFICERS INJURED AND ONE MAN DEAD IN APATZINGÁN

A violent night shook the municipality of Apatzingán in the state of Michoacán, Mexico, after an armed confrontation between state police forces and unidentified armed individuals left three officers injured. The incident prompted a large-scale security deployment across the region.

According to official reports, the clash occurred during a routine patrol along the highway leading toward the locality of Acahuato. The officers of the State Guard were suddenly targeted by passengers traveling in a grey Cherokee vehicle. In response to the direct aggression, the personnel returned fire, triggering a gunfight before the suspects fled toward Acahuato.

Medical and civil protection personnel arrived swiftly at the scene to provide first aid. Among the wounded officers were Bruno Márquez Morales, who sustained an ankle injury, and Luis Donaldo Banderas Torres, who suffered a facial wound near the chin. A third individual, identified as 45-year-old Ana Lilia Portillo Peñalosa, also suffered an ankle injury after falling from a vehicle during the commotion. All wounded parties were transferred to local hospitals for specialized medical care.

Following the attack, a joint tactical operation was launched by the Guardia Nacional, the Secretaría de la Defensa Nacional (SEDENA), and local municipal police forces to track down the fleeing aggressors. Authorities confirmed that searches extended throughout the surrounding areas, though no arrests had been reported as of the latest updates.

Hours prior to the highway confrontation, a separate violent event took place in the Ferrocarril neighborhood of Apatzingán. A man was shot dead while walking along Acatita street near a local establishment known as “El Triángulo.” Emergency services responded to local calls, but paramedics arriving at the scene verified that the victim had already succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds.

The area was immediately cordoned off by security forces to preserve physical evidence. Investigators and forensic experts from the state prosecution office processed the scene and transferred the remains to the forensic medical service facility for formal identification and autopsy procedures.
