The Secretaría de la Defensa Nacional (SEDENA) confirmed on Sunday the discovery of the body of an active member of the Guardia Nacional, along with three other individuals, in the locality of Plan de Lima, located in the municipality of Juan R. Escudero, Guerrero, Mexico. The incident transpired shortly after a video circulated on social media platforms, in which the agent made accusations regarding high-ranking commanders and security strategies implemented across the region.
According to Official Press Release No. 26 issued from Lomas de Sotelo, Mexico City, the officer was on scheduled leave in his native state of Guerrero when the events occurred. Federal security officials stated that these acts of violence take place amid an escalation of joint security operations directed at criminal syndicates operating in the territory.
In response to the homicide, federal and local authorities launched an immediate inter-institutional deployment comprising 284 military and security personnel, 2 aircraft, and 36 ground vehicles. Military authorities indicated that additional contingents will arrive in the area in the coming days to maintain permanent operations until the perpetrators are captured and presented before judicial authorities.
As part of the initial joint response carried out in the communities of Pablo Galeana, Río Verde, and Xaltianguis, within the municipality of Acapulco, Guerrero, joint forces involving the Guardia Nacional, state police, and the regional prosecutor's office executed targeted operations resulting in the arrest of 16 individuals linked to the organized crime group known as "Los Ardillos", including a key financial operative.
During these security procedures, authorities recorded the following seizures:
- 12 firearms of various calibers
- More than 36,700 rounds of ammunition
- 17 doses of methamphetamine (crystal)
- 10 slot machines
- 2 motorcycles
- 1 motor vehicle
The military institution reiterated that security intelligence efforts have been intensified without distinction against several criminal networks operating throughout Guerrero, specifically naming groups such as "Los Tlacos", "Los Rusos", and "Los Ardillos". Official figures provided by the ministry regarding overall results in the state highlight the detention of 1,850 individuals, the recovery of 1,035 firearms, 140,049 rounds of ammunition, 39 grenades, 18.9 tons of illicit drugs, 1,428 vehicles, and the dismantling of 6 clandestine laboratories.
"The Secretariat of National Defense strongly condemns these acts of violence and reaffirms its commitment to work closely with civil authorities in the investigations to clarify the facts, including the circumstances surrounding the statements broadcast on social networks," the official communique stated.
Human rights observers and local community leaders have expressed deep concern over the safety of security personnel in the region, calling for transparent investigations into both the homicides and the operational claims raised prior to the agent's death.
