OPERATION IN PUERTO PENASCO LEADS TO SEVEN ARRESTS AND THREE HOSTAGES FREED

PUERTO PEÑASCO, Sonora, Mexico — Coordinated intelligence and tactical investigations conducted by the Fiscalía General de Justicia del Estado de Sonora (FGJE Sonora), supported by federal intelligence agencies including the Secretaría de Seguridad y Protección Ciudadana (SSPC), Secretaría de la Defensa Nacional (SEDENA), Secretaría de Marina (SEMAR), and local authorities, culminated in a successful security operation in Puerto Peñasco, located in the municipality of Puerto Peñasco, state of Sonora, Mexico.

The operation targeted a specific property linked to the illegal deprivation of liberty of multiple individuals. Upon arrival, security forces faced armed aggression from suspects utilizing firearms, prompting a controlled tactical response. Authorities successfully neutralized the threat, secured the perimeter, and safely liberated three victims who had been held against their will.

During the intervention, seven individuals were taken into custody. Furthermore, an extensive inventory of illicit materials was confiscated from the location:

- Over 40 long guns - Two Minimi machine guns - One Browning M2 .50 caliber heavy machine gun - Improvised explosive devices - Nearly 4,000 rounds of ammunition - Quantities of narcotics - Tactical equipment - High-end vehicles reported stolen in the United States

Local and federal officials expressed gratitude for the ongoing institutional coordination, specifically acknowledging the leadership of Sonora Governor Alfonso Durazo for his continuous backing of regional security initiatives.

Special recognition was also extended to the three AMIC officers who sustained injuries during the armed encounter. Authorities commended their bravery, professionalism, and unwavering dedication to public safety, confirming that all three injured personnel are currently recovering and remain out of danger.
