Authorities in the state of Sonora, Mexico, confirmed that a United States citizen wanted for the murder of a local dentist was killed during an armed confrontation with law enforcement officers on October 17, 2026, in the municipality of Agua Prieta.
According to reports provided by the Fiscalía General de Justicia del Estado de Sonora, the events began on October 15, 2026, when 42-year-old dentist Amed de Jesús Preciado Hernández was shot to death in the parking lot of his practice, located in Plaza Kalitea within the Kennedy neighborhood of Nogales, Sonora. Investigators established that the victim was inside his Ford Lobo pickup truck when he was repeatedly shot by the assailant.
Security camera footage from the scene captured the moment of the aggression, during which the victim could be heard pleading for his life. Official findings indicate that the suspect, identified by law enforcement as Ernest “N” or Ernesto “N” (30 years old, a U.S. citizen with a criminal record in the United States, also referred to in media reports as Ernesto Rascón), blamed the dentist for leaving a tooth loose following a dental procedure.
On October 17, 2026, agents from the Agencia Ministerial de Investigación Criminal (AMIC), alongside Municipal Police officers, moved to execute an arrest warrant at a residence located on 19th Street, between 18th and 19th Avenues, in the Ejidal 2 neighborhood of Agua Prieta. Upon arrival, the suspect opened fire on the officers.
Law enforcement elements returned fire and neutralized the suspect at the scene. During the shootout, two law enforcement officers sustained injuries:
