NOGALES, Sonora — Two brothers identified as Christopher Manuel and Jorge have been sentenced to 29 years, 2 months, and 3 days in prison after being convicted of forced disappearance committed by private individuals and aggravated assault in Nogales, Sonora.
According to official case details handled by local judicial authorities, the incident occurred on October 12, 2024, in the Lomas del Sol neighborhood. The two men, accompanied by other individuals, were driving through the area with the specific intent to forcibly apprehend a man identified as Vicente.
When the perpetrators located Vicente and attempted to force him into their vehicle, a female relative identified as Joaquina Elizabeth intervened to stop the abduction. During the struggle, the attackers shot her in the leg before fleeing the location with the victim.
In addition to the prison terms, judicial authorities ruled that both convicted individuals must pay a fine totaling 490,519 pesos as part of the legal penalties established for these offenses.
Investigators from the Fiscalía General de Justicia del Estado de Sonora integrated and fully documented these circumstances into the legal process against both individuals, securing a conviction for the violence committed against the relative and the disappearance of the primary victim.
As of October 2, 2026, the physical location of Vicente remains unknown, and authorities continue to maintain his file as an active case of forced disappearance.
