A man who was observed soliciting money from drivers using crutches in Cancun was recorded removing his support equipment, changing clothes, and walking without apparent difficulty, prompting municipal police intervention due to traffic safety concerns.

Security camera footage recorded on October 15, 2026, in the municipality of Benito Juárez, Quintana Roo, Mexico, shows an adult male who had been asking drivers for financial assistance at traffic lights and busy thoroughfares in Cancun. The individual, who relied on a pair of crutches while positioned between vehicles along major avenues such as Tulum Avenue, was captured on video moving away from the roadway toward a shaded area, removing his crutches, changing a portion of his clothing, and walking away without visible mobility limitations.

Following the recording of the incident, a citizen accompanied by members of the Municipal Police approached the man. When asked about his physical state, the individual verbally identified himself as Alejandro and stated that he had suffered an accident at three years of age that affected the rear portion of his body. He did not provide further technical details regarding his physical appearance or physical condition during the interaction.

"Officers instructed the individual to cease standing between moving vehicles and to stop obstructing traffic due to the safety risks involved for both pedestrians and drivers," authority representatives noted during the interaction.

Prior to the video recording, local residents and motorists had reported observing the man carrying out the same activity for several weeks across various intersections. Similar unconfirmed reports suggested previous sightings in neighboring municipalities such as Playa del Carmen and Tulum, though local municipal entities have not issued formal administrative verification regarding those locations.

As of October 15, 2026, the Municipal Police intervention remained limited to traffic hazard prevention. Local authorities have not reported any formal detention, official investigation for fraud, or medical examination regarding his physical condition.
