Members of the Los Tlacos criminal organization released a video message addressed to the residents of Iguala, declaring an alleged truce and issuing warnings against local extortionists.

On November 3, 2026, a video message recorded by members of the criminal organization known as Los Tlacos, or the Cártel de la Sierra, began circulating publicly. The footage shows a masked spokesman surrounded by dozens of individuals equipped with tactical military gear and high-powered rifles in a rural area of Guerrero, Mexico.

In the recorded broadcast, the spokesperson addressed the residents of Iguala de la Independencia and neighboring municipalities such as Cocula and Huitzuco. The speaker stated that leadership had reached an agreement to end approximately a year of violent armed clashes in the northern region of the state. Furthermore, the spokesman denied that the group levies extortion fees on merchants, public transport operators, or local businesses.

The message included explicit warnings targeting independent extortionists as well as individuals involved in the sale or consumption of methamphetamine (cristal). While calling on government authorities to fulfill their duties, the organization also urged displaced families to return to their communities, asserting that civilians were never the intended targets during past conflicts.

"Civilians were caught in the crossfire, but they were never the objective," the spokesman claimed during the recording.

The northern territory of Guerrero has historically experienced disputes between competing groups for control over illicit markets and transport routes. Los Tlacos originally emerged around 2017 in the region of Heliodoro Castillo. Federal and state security forces continue to conduct operations and targeted arrests against alleged operatives of organized crime groups in the area to maintain public order.
